In Memoriam
Donald E. Worcester (1915–2003) — A Tribute
|
"A page a day is a book a year," Donald Worcester admonished junior faculty members who were struggling to produce enough to gain tenure; he also told them that in their writing and lecturing they should "leave them wanting more." He followed his own advice; during a teaching career that began in 1947 and ended in the 1990s, he published dozens of articles in scholarly journals and over thirty nicely-written books. His speciality was Latin American history, but he also wrote about the Apaches, the Chisholm Trail, the Spanish Mustangs, and the Texas Longhorns, and found time, too, to write Westerns and children's books that attracted a wide readership. His books received favorable notices, won prizes, and several were translated into Spanish, German, and Polish. |
